“…in Unfamiliar: Street Project the chair is a reinvention of the only pre-existing object in the space; the park bench. By replicating the chair I have made it possible for the work to be interactive and audiences become part of the work simply by sitting on the extant structure. My pile of stacked chairs also uses the space as a visual storage space and in doing so I highlight the wasted potential of this space.
The images will remain visible on the wall for months- even years, and will deteriorate as the wall weathers. This time frame is long enough for the work to become invisible to local residents and as such, with time, the ability of the work to achieve defamiliarisation will diminish.”
